Summer internship program or SIP is an
integral module, of any MBA course since
it prepares a robust ground for the students to build flourishing career. It
facilitates the students to get a hold over the practicalities of real-life
corporate settings, and above all it gives a "golden opportunity" to
the candidates to set up a network of contacts which would help them to fetch
good jobs for themselves once they complete their studies. However, every now
and then the very same question surfaces "Can summer internship programs
help a management student to get into full-time employment?" - Well it
solely depends on the mindset of the candidate, his or her smartness and
competence which can leave an impression on minds of the prospective employers.
The biggest and most cherished dream
of an individual pursuing an MBA degree
is to find a great job which could give them a lavish lifestyle. Summer
Internships act as an intermediary channel that can help the students achieve
their dream, but the problem is that many do not know "how to convert SIP
into an entry pass to get well paying job? As I mentioned in the above
paragraph that it is hard as well as smart work that plays an important role in
creating excellent possibilities to enter the league of executives in some good
organization, merely on basis of your SIP performance.
Please do not feel that I am asking
you to manipulate the situations or people because MBA course is not about exercising undue influence or unethical
practices, it is about how to be resourceful. Therefore, you have to just apply
a little bit of your brains, act smart and take care of certain things to get
into the "good books" of your prospective employers.
Show
enthusiasm:
Keenness to work and learn new things
is that particular feature which every company desires in their employees. So,
even while you are working as a trainee, always keep yourself in high spirits,
be ready to take up new projects (be careful about exploitations). This will
create a favorable impression for you on the top management, which might help
you obtain a position in that company after completion of MBA degree or if nothing else than at least will earn you some
recommendations (again can be used to get into other organization).
Be
consistent:
A silly mistake that very beginner or
intern makes it to take the "whole stuff lightly". Never do that! It
will hamper your chances to create positive influence. Be steady in your
outputs, it is absolutely "not done" that one day you are completing
every task assigned and the other day you are just not able to submit anything,
Avoid distraction! Give your 100%, or I would say 200%, EVERY DAY and not in
the first few days.
Learn
to be Team member:
Never try to be a leader, especially
when you are still an intern and pursing your MBA course. Try to be a member of the TEAM, unless you do not do
that you will never be able to lead a group. It is good to give opinions, but
never disrespect a senior member since this will definitely keep you away from
the good books of your managers, thus hindering the possibilities for you to
get a placement.
Get
feedbacks:
It is always great to ask for
feedback; ask the senior member of your organization to give your feedback (but
remember that a person can always be biased, so again "use your
brains" and do not irritate them with the same question). It will make you
familiarized and help you focus on your strengths and weaknesses.
As, I told you that my intention is to
advise you to "not" follow any kind unfair means to achieve your
targets, but yes, for sure, I feel that there are some aspects which, if
ignored will make it difficult for you to find a good and reputed job profile
after you are done with your MBA degree.
