Have you watched Hindi movie “Wake up
Sid”, if you have watched it, then you might have noticed that there was
something every striking about the main character. The main character – a
college student (Sid) is shown confused, totally disoriented. This is a very
typical characteristic of any student; whether he or she studies in a high
school, in a college or even doing post graduation courses. Such situation occurs especially when we are
given ‘N’ number of preferences, and all seems to be perfect. It has now become a routine for a student, who
is pursing or is aspiring to take up MBA program, as the program has evolved tremendously, due to the changing
global inclinations that give unlimited choices to the students.
With the rapid globalization, the
conventional business operations are going through a transformation. Moreover,
different sectors and avenues are opening up, as a result of the progress of
technology. So, corporate world requires trained (in some specify areas)
professionals who can handle certain tasks, that needs some proficiency and
extra skills. Therefore, today, many colleges have implemented specialized MBA programs, along with the general
management courses, for those individuals who want to make their career in some
niche industry.
Since, specific management program is not
so common and also there is not much information that is available about it, so
it is obvious that certain questions will nag you, like.......
What
is this Specialized MBA degree?
To be more precise, specialized MBA degree is a sector specific
program, where the syllabus is planned keeping in mind the trends and
operations that are required for smooth functioning of some particular industry
or its allied sectors. Let us say for an example a degree or diploma in
hospital management is an industry specific course that focuses only on how to
manage a hospital.
How
it different from Regular MBA programs in terms of future career options and
growth?
Every MBA program has certain fundamental attributes which are always considered
as a major employability criteria for the employers.
Regular MBA will focus on all the
major aspects related to the business management like marketing, sales, etc. While
special MBA degree targets specific
areas, e.g. retailing or international business (these areas primarily belong
to the 21st Century). It will go into the depth of fundamental features will
needs to be taken in consideration for better performance of any niche
industries.
With new sector coming up in the
country, people with a specialized MBA
degree will have better chances to grow in their receptive fields, as it
will give them knowledge about certain unconventional industries that will give
them a cutting edge...
Can
I go for it?
Well, to be very honest, specialized MBA program is not for everyone. It
would be that you opt for regular course
if you do not want work in a single industrial sector, because it will in a
way not allow you to change your field.
Go for it, only if you are focused and determined to work in a
particular industry. It is better option for those who are already employed and
want to move up the hierarchy as it will give you more scope.
